The “Encountering the LGBTI Community” training series is now in it’s third year and has become known as Melbourne’s most comprehensive professional development training on lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex issues. A psychologist that attended last years course commented that despite having worked with LGBTI people for many years, she still discovered there was so much she had known or realised that she could incorporate into her practice.
The last “Encounter Series” for 2014 will cover issues like the coming out process, mental health concerns, homophobia, LGBTI spirituality, plus personal stories will be told illustrating how the things learnt in the training are part of real life situations. The introductory course is being held on September 25th, with the advanced course on October 2nd, and a specialist spirituality half day on October 9th.
Guests speakers this time around include Sally Goldner from Transgender Victoria, Michelle Kolev from Freedom 2b, intersex person Tony Briffa, plus a coupe sharing their experience of forming a blended same-sex parented family.
If you are a teacher, chaplain, health worker, counsellor, psychologist or simply interested in learning more, visit The Encounter Series page or pass the link on to somebody who might be interested. Places are limited and tend to fill quickly.
The course is accredited by the Australian Counselling Association and can be used for professional development points.
See you there!
