About Josh Tuhipa-Turner

Josh Tuhipa-Turner is a compassionate counsellor and social work professional whose career spans over two decades of supporting individuals and communities through periods of change and challenge. His journey began in New Zealand, where he earned his Bachelor of Social Work from Massey University. His formation as a practitioner was deeply enriched through his work across multiple jurisdictions in the United Kingdom and within Australian religious institutions, shaping his unique perspective on human services and therapeutic support.

Drawing on his rich bicultural heritage and twenty years as a Social Work practitioner, Josh brings a unique depth to his practice through his understanding of cultural narratives and their impact on healing and growth. His recent completion of a Graduate Certificate in Counselling from Edith Cowan University has further enhanced his therapeutic approach, particularly in supporting individuals and groups navigating complex life transitions.

Josh’s professional practice is distinguished by his ability to create safe, culturally responsive spaces for healing and growth. As an associate with MGA Counselling, he brings extensive experience in professional supervision and counselling support, helping other practitioners develop their skills while maintaining their own wellbeing. His work consistently demonstrates a deep appreciation for the intersections of cultural safety, trauma-informed practice, and holistic healing approaches.

Beyond his clinical work, Josh brings valuable insights through his extensive experience in training and development, where he has helped organisations build more inclusive and supportive environments. His commitment to ongoing professional development and evidence-based practice keeps him at the forefront of contemporary counselling approaches. Whether working with individuals, groups, or organisations, Josh’s approach is marked by genuine empathy, cultural awareness, and a dedication to fostering positive change in people’s lives.
